We were out yesterday measuring the ice and found 6" of ice in the bay still with a layer of slush and lots of snow on top. Staff have been flooding the lake access in front of Toucan's and snowmobile & 4 wheeler traffic are allowed out. Don't forget to stop in Toucan's for the latest ice conditions.
The real good news is the super cold temps are looking a little more manageable for this weekend and the snowmobile trials are also looking great.
6-8" of ice were found this weekend in our bay with occasional spots up to 10". Four wheeler & snowmobile traffic allowed. We plan to go out Monday and post another report. You can also call us at 320-676-3693 and press 2 for our full ice report.
No news means no real changes. Still 6-8" most areas out to Shaw's Reef. Our access in front of Toucan's is open to 4 wheeler & snowmobile traffic. Patience, winter doesn't even officially start until Saturday.
The cold and wind have been on our side! We are now finding 8 to 11 inches of ice with plenty of snow. Where there is snow, the ice is slow to thicken. PLEASE be careful this time of year as thinner ice is very common. Automobile traffic is still not recommended on the ice at this time. We have plowed a road to Shaws Reef with a light plow truck in order to assure the road thickens for traffic in the upcoming days. Once we get out to the lake, we are finding many areas of good ice, however there are still plenty of areas with thin ice. Stop in at Toucan's before venturing out for the latest ice conditions.
Ice Update 1/5/14 Happy New Year! With 9 to 20 inches of ice on the lake along with deep layers of water, slush and snow on top of the thinner ice, it has been a very unique start to the season. These conditions have made it a real challenge to make roads. The ice is getting thicker, just at a much slower pace than it would without all of the snow. We did start pulling houses to Shaws Reef on Friday along with a few rentals. Due to the forecast of weather that is below negative 30 on Sunday and Monday, we will not be pulling any houses either day for the safety of all and the equipment. We should be able to resume pulling of houses on Tuesday.
Ice Update 1/7 We are pulling rentals and private houses to Shaws Reef. The current ice conditions are making it very difficult to make roads due to the snow, slush and water that is scattered across the lake. We will continue to get houses out while making roads to other areas of the lake. We had shut down any pulls due to the extreme cold and will resume pulling houses on Thursday. We are not staging any houses this year, we are just pulling them directly from their stored location to your fishing spot.
Ice Report 1/20/14 - Ice Contest Update Due to the inconsistency in the ice this year making an ice arena has proven to be a real challenge & unsafe. For the safety of our staff & all the parked vehicles we have decided to cancel this years ice contest. The priority of the ice guys has been maintaining safe roads & working on new roads. We plan to have Baby Bump & Big Point open by this next weekend. Currently we have roads to Shaw's Reef, 2 Mile & Red's Hump.
