We gained another half inch of ice today and now have just under 12 inches on most areas. We still have 8-9 inches closer to shore that we are now flooding to freeze it from the top down.
The crack is very active--splitting apart each night and jack-knifing as the temps warm late morning.
We are now speculating driving by Monday. Maybe Sunday --stay tuned! All that if we can safely bridge the crack.....
FYI--The Waypoint is "all the walleye you can eat" Friday nights and "all the ribs you can eat" Saturday night.
Looks like another good forcast, though, for the ice. Looking forward to a great looking ice this year, for a change! Out on the flats it's an eleven inch average, so we're getting close to that drivable range.
Hey Bobber, just a question, When flooded is the ice as strong as naturally occuring - Just woundering
(i dig these little faces)
Good question! No flooding is not as good as clear black ice. We like to use the less than rule...which is less than 50 percent. So if we add 4 inches, we only count 2 inches of the total. We had a half acre area that was covered with snow that had less ice than inside and out side of the area. So we elected to add to it!
The other good thing about flooding is it takes the snow cover away "allowing exposure" for better freezing of the ice.
If you are bored and wish you were up at Mille Lac's fishing you can go to Red door's webcam time lapse and you will see a couple of deer who wanted to be movie stars last night about 11.
