Ice Fishing line

This year I loaded half of my Ice fishing reels with  10 lb (normal 4 lb diameter) yellow braided Pro Line.

the main reason I switched is braided line has no memory, dosen't nick or need to be stripped off like polly.

My question is this, in clear water like Mille Lacs do I need to add a polly leader?  With a 28" rod my leader would be in the 14-20" range.

Anyone out there have experience of thoughts???   confuse confuse confuse

I'd use at least 6' of 8# Trilene smooth casting, Rick. Let me know how that braided works for ya, though, will ya?

I typically use either #4 or #6 Trilene green tint with the color of Mille Lacs I really think it helps...never had any exprience w/ braided.

just my thoughts smile

I used power pro ice line last year. Absolutely hated it. I love power pro in the summer but the ice line seemed like the water froze to it instantly when out in the air. LOTS of trouble with ice on the line. Just run Regular Ice Trilene with a carbon leader.

Well it's apparent that not many folks use braided line.

I have been using Fireline on my Pike pole for 6-7 years.

I went to braided line after loosing a couple slimers on

broken line. Braided line doesn't nick up when rubbed on

the side of the hole and no stretch. I haven't lost a fish

since switching.  I did notice ice buildup, but had it on

my Trilene also. If it becomes a problem I guess I'll

use those rods in the fish house. Anyway, thanks

for your comments and I'll let you know how it

works out.
