Straight out from Red Door and slightly to the east, by the first fast break there's a great spot that has some anomolies that hold alot of walleyes and perch in the early season. You'll see on your GPS where these little cutouts are when you go from 12 fow to 19 fow real quick. I always try these little "bumps" first. (Rock and sand)

Last year, the current was heavy there and buckshots and rainbows were working best. Good luck and we'll see you out there.

Straight out from Barnaveld's in 13 fow is a good evening spot. During the day you'll want to be in 19 - 21 fow.

Hey, Kyle. Just figured out that you are my neighbor! Your cabin is right in front of the spot I was talking about! Where you turn to go to your other property, Jody and I live right at the front of that driveway. Stop by and say hi sometime.

Small website ain't it?

P.S. We've got fish houses, too............

#3 Jiggin Rap, White glow w/ Chartruse head when the fish are aggressive. 1/8th Forage Minnow, Perch/Gold for neutral fish. Hang a minnow head on the treble hook. Plain Green hook #4 with a Rainbow minnow or the biggest Fathead you have in your bucket for your set line. You might be getting out on the north end soon if the ice stays put.

Please see the Ice Fishing thread from late last season for some good tips last year; at that time many of us had luck with the following patterns...

The nuclear white ant has been effective recently this season and the Macho minnow in perch colors/small size tipped with small fathead minnow.

I hope you have good luck. MM. smilesmilesmile

Check out my post in Ice Conditions, Kyle. It's kinda shaky still. We need cold temps and no more snow for awhile and no wind................http://youtu.be/z_MdIRWYuuA

Good choice, Kyle.

I don't think there's anybody that wants to get out fishing more than me right now, but experience tells me to be patient for just a little while longer. With the mild temps this week and the forecast of more snow (rain) this weekend, I'm just waiting for things to get just a little more stable and we'll need the help of mother nature............but I think by the weekend after this we might be where we need to be icewise.pray.gif

I don't know if you guys have seen this video yet, but I like this guy. Even though this video was shot on Red Lake, the same holds true for Mille Lacs here in the early season where we're not going to be getting out in the basin anytime soon......

Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=tV-aRWQWLFw&NR=1

T2J, you make some very good points!

I checked the lake as we have the past few days.....I'm thinking that yes, you could get out and wet a line if you really need to...but I'm waiting! because I don't need to get my fix that bad!

We had 4 inches on the new ice out of the Red Door today Friday Dec.14th.  The old ice near shore ran from 4-6 inches.

There is plenty of time for this ole angler to wet a line and feel a tug on the end !

We knocked down the snow pack near shore today..hopefully allowing the colder night time temperatures to freeze it alittle more.

Lets all hope for some colder weather....we don't need this snow coming on Saturday....stay away!

Be safe on the ice guys!
