When they can get a coast guard cutter into mille lacs, not with a trailer, but by navigating it from their "federal waters" then they might have something... otherwise, it is just money grubbing at the federal level as far as I am concerned. The six-pack for 6 or less clients is not required. That's what they are trying to change. So giudes like Bob with 2-3 clients out at a time would need to get the license. Charter captains with more than 6 passengers need a different license.
Technically, it is required now. But that said, the CG., in writing, told us that we just need to show an effort to get it by filling out the application until the situation/license issue is resolved and changed. That was 2 years ago and we have heard nothing from them.
