Opener Fishing

We caught some fish in my boat but it was real tough getting the under 17's. We had a majority in the 19-21.5 range with a few 24-26.

We fished rock (bobber) sand (rigging) gravel (rigging) our best bite was in the sand with a close secound in the rocks in the evening. We pulled cranks briefly around the rocks with nothing. Most nets we seen where up on the north end in the sand. We seen probably the most right sized fish coming form there. It was great weather and company in the boat so the time flew by and cant believe the 2012 opener is gone.

We had 30 fishermen out on the water out of our place and 62 fish where brought in. Most had good fishing for numbers.

 How did you do?

Our group had a lot fun at Hunters. We managed 3 limits of fish out of four guys. We rigged off rock structure and threw out bobbers on the rocks. The bobbers worked the best. The best time was definitely sunset to 11:00p with Sunday night being the best day. I was so happy for the wind. We even went to the mud for the heck of it and picked up some fish. All in all, a great opener.

The only place place we really got on them was the mud (but only two slots).  Fished in the sand a bit but got sick of green slime and zebra mussels.  I graphed some of best structure from Hunters south to the Hawkbill over to Whakon past Izatys and the graph was pretty much blank.  I think our beloved Lake is in dire straits......  very sad.

We had a great opener in terms of numbers, but not so good for finding keepers during the day.  Bobber fishing at night was a blast!  We had a ton of action and finally got into the keeper fish.  We'll see how the season plays out, but hopefully there are more keepers than we think.

nite bobbering was great 12ft deep,   not a fish story...  we were putting back 14 inch and 15 inch  knowing we would soon get 16 inchers.  Sunday nite was the best for my boat.

What's the story with the green slime, anyway? We had that crap on our lines too. I don't remember ever seeing that before.

Great reports guys! We had a good opener as well. Started at midnight Friday nite pulling cranks in 4-9 feet and did fantastic. What surprised me is almost half our fish this nite were under 17. Our day bite was not as good. Caught some fish but all over 17. The evening bobber bite was very good for us as well from about 7-10pm. Once again, I was surprised on the number of under 17" fish we caught and even some little guys under 13". All and all a good opener with beautiful weather! Man is the lake clear! Might be an interesting year...
