Ice fishing Report 1-9-12
Permalink

The reports are coming in at The Red Door Resort with a mixed bag. That being fisherman are getting some nice sized perch along with a decent walleye bite! Reports of a number of "over fish" being released along with a few keepers to put in the bucket. The fish are being caught out in 19-26 fow. The ice conditions have limited the fishing areas that can be targeted. The flats out of the Red Door Resort that many would be fishing are currently inaccessible due to open water and bad ice. We have the western border of the bad ice running from near the east side of Knox Point out to the southeast heading towards East Flat staked marking the off limits to the fisherman. Most fisherman are fishing east along the break out in the 19-26 fow. Jigging spoons and tip ups are catching the fish.

I have had few opportunities to wet a line over the past few days. Work around the resort has kept me occupied this early ice season with the construction of the new "Way Point Café" that will open soon on site!

The fishing for me has been limited to accouple of trips on the ice, enough to get some use out of the new equipment that I have access to this new ice season. I am running the Hummingbird Ice 55 / 385ci Combo currently! The Ice 55 has really worked well so far, offering some great features such as the sharp crisp color display, the digital depth along with the selectable dual beam transducer. The 385ci unit has been used in my truck and on the atv so far with great success also. The combo allows it to be used in so many different functions such as on the portable Ice 55 or on the dash heading to the access on the lake or on the atv. It’s a very versatile unit.

The fishing success for me has been out on the rocks in 17-19 feet. Jigging Lindy Rattl’n Fliers has put some fish on the ice for this angler. The attached photo’s show a few of my catches. The perch colored Rattl’n Flyer has been the best color for me so far.

We are hoping that this cold weather coming to the area this week. Will allow us some additional ice. The mild 24 hour temperatures has not allowed the ice depth to improve. The ice depth out of the Red Door has been measured from just over 11 inches to around 12.

Sounds great.  Will there be dock space to tie off to for a quick bite to eat?

Bobber,

Did you get in trouble again? disbeliefnoyawnhmm

Must have been the 'bisquits' or 'biskets' that got yousmile

PS The Red Door night light is quite impressive.

Lots of OPEN WATER though. What a strange year. Stay safe and keep an eye on Jon across the road.

Hope the new cafe goes well. MM.
