MM.. with the temps this week, I do believe we will have plenty of ice and the lake should be pretty much locked up. It is 3' as I type this right now.....
With high winds out of the southeast this morning, (moving water does not freeze) the crack to the north may push shut. That will open up the cracks on the south end of our ice flow once again.
If this is the case, it will probably not freeze there by the time the wind switches in the early evening to a northwest wind and blows the big ice cube back again, which will open that north crack back up again.
Improbable as it seems, our only saving grace has been NO SNOW, but we need these strong winds to stop blowing the 12 mile diameter ice cube back and forth.
Crazy as it was...I STILL saw some steam coming from the NW corner Tuesday at first daylight...what that means is there was still a small pocket of open water!
Later in the morning it was gone! hopping it is now ice covered. 8 below here this am as I'm writting this post!
The weekend of the 25th, would it be a good idea to stay away from the mid lake flats if I guys was planning on just fishing and not partaking in the extaviganza? I'm guessing it will be very crowded out there.
I wouldn't worry about it. The midlake flats are a very big area. The only crowding will probably be on the structure near the East side and maybe some of the flats closest to Hunters Point.
