I take it nobody has been fishing over there. I'm assuming the ice got pretty rough in the wind. I am hoping to get out there Tues or Wed and fish the 11 to 13 ft break line straight out from the access to start. I've heard it can be good in there on early ice. Did well Fathers day there. I guess I will let you know what I find out.
This from Appledorns today (December 18th). They are right in the neighborhood you are asking about.....
As Paul says below, things are changing daily. What took place days or weeks ago surely isn't the same today...nor will it be tomorrow. Until we get a week of quiet, single digit or below temps, it will be a slow process. With no snow on the ice, one extreme artic air front will catch conditions up fast. That's the bright side!
"We currently have 8 inches in the bay. Once you get out of the bay things change dramatically. Some places have 7 inches and others are just skimmed over. There were several areas that had open water two days ago. The lake is currently not locked in and as such, the wind has been shifting the ice sheet around creating some very interesting rescue situations. Ice conditions are changing daily so please check in and get up to date information wherever you are accessing the lake.
Daily updates can be found here, on our website and also on our FB page."

I was out of cedar creek two weeks ago today. walked over towards doe island. had anywhere from 4 to 10 inches of ice. At the time there was a wheeler out as far as the 8 to 10 foot break i believe.
Thank you guys both for the report. If I do make it there I'm pretty sure I will just walk. I don't really plan on leaving the bay anyway. My father in law talked about having luck by pine island along the bullrushes in the past. I think that was more for perch though.
I was on the east side this morning. further north. There was open water out in front of Eastside marina. with the warm sunny weather the ice is shifting. Extreme caution if you go out. conditions are rapidly changing.
havent been back because i live in rochester and work 8 to 5 monday thru friday. and with the holidays and having to be on call new years i wont be back up till jan 6th thru the 15th
I still dont get out enough. It's amazing how there is always something that needs to be done. I am taking the time, and have it planned to go out on friday morning. I will for sure give a report when I get back. I just hope my plans don't fall though. I just don't want to go out alone with the way its been up there this year.
I believe that if you were to head out of the south end of the lake you should be find. also i have seen that there are wheel houses just out of lybacks per the web cam. so i would head out fomr any of those places.

Look at the Lyback cam now, Theres a truck out there!
Well my father in law didn't make it back to town lastnight, so the fishin trip is postponed once again. Maybe Monday now. I just dont want to make the first trip alone with everything that's been going on. I still plan on staying in the bay that cedar creek flows into.
I haven't but really want to get out there! If you can go Wednessday morning I'd be glad you meet you there. That's about the only I'm I can go this week.
Went out of cedar creek this am got set up about 7am ish... no cell phone on my person so didnt know what time it was. set up about 100 feet or so from another house fishing the fish "highway" break in about 15 feet of water. fished till about 8 am in that one hole only losing one minnow. whatever took the minnow i never got a glimpse of it was there and gone. im thinking perch. i then moved all the way south towards the "finger" just off of pine island about 100 yards nw from the tip found about 13 to 17 feet of water fished here for about 15 minutes then found myself moving every 15 to 20 minutes eventually fishing right on the crack in about 8 to 13 feet of water. one person set up on the west side in about 16 feet of water per the gps. and that person said that they had no luck... maybe because they were on the cell phone at the time.. honeslty not a true fisherman. i only bring my phone with me to take pictures. not to talk on. then i left absout 11:15am.
I caught about 20-25 perch in that time span nothing reaching over 9 inches long for perch . no walleyes. if i were to head back out of cedar i would head towards the 25 feet of water and fish any "highway" out there i could find......
