Cassie already posted this...but we were out today...we did make it to the boot...but did find pockets of open water. There is open water to the east of the boot and we found more open water towards fishers flat.
Everything is black ice and if there was no wind today we might not have seen the waves. What ice we did find on the way out was good...but we need to make more ice before it is time to fish.
I will post again later this week with more updates.
Good to hear you verified what I have seen from my perch high above the lake with the high power glasses. The full moon showed those waves plain as day a few nights ago. The latest space shot shows the open water also.....if you look real closely you can see the strips of darker, open water spots on the 12/10 shot.
By this coming Saturday morning, those open spots could be iced over. But how much and how does one know where they are? Good call to wait for a while.....
"they ain't got wings and they ain't got shovels!" So the fish will be waiting.

Not worth it!!!! There is no reason on earth to be out on that mud "checking things out" right now with the weather we have had. Not trying to lecture you, but is it really worth it. We are in store for another strong wind again according to the weather.....wait until we get the cold. It will come soon enough.... be safe and good fishing.

I agree....no fish is worth swimming in ice cold water over. We always use extreme caution and travel in groups. We drill and chisel our way...which takes alot of time to do it right.
We have seen what we need to for now...and will wait for some colder temps to start checking ice again.
