Roach's Guide Service ICE REPORT 1
Permalink

Just a quick update of what we have found so far.  Ice thickness varies as it always does this time of year.  Some really good black ice with 6-7" and some areas that are less...and some cracks we are dealing with right now.  We are working on getting stakes out to the boot and the jug...you can imagine this takes alot of time.  Black ice is a good sign...but with no snow on the lake and cracks...it also makes for an adventure when staking.

Hunters in working on the cracks out front...I will keep you all updated later in the week.

A friendly reminder...even if staked, always use caution.  The ice is moving alot right now with the temps and lack of snow cover.

I will post more later...

Scott

Scott,

Your ice report is very "reality". Good job....

From my perch, 65 ft. above the lake from the Myr Mar point, I have seen open water patches, even the past 24 hrs. Some of these multi- acre patches are a long ways off shore (mudfllat country), only seen with high-power binocs and from a high observation point. I wonder how much ice is on those spots as I type? And it all looks the same from behind the handlebars.....

The full moon a night or two ago showed up on those spots like sore thumbs!

I agree Steve....6-7" is the thickest we have seen...and seen in many places...but we have also found 3-4"....and obviously we have only drilled in straight lines.

I know those cracks out in front of hunters were very spooky...all looked the same...if we weren't looking for bad areas it could have been ugly.

I will post later in the week...hopefully some cooler weather will make some more ice this week...and maybe heal some big cracks.

Scott

Thanks Scott & Hello to you and Tony! smilewink

Thanks also Steve for the Myr Mar persepctive...

The accurate reporting and safety first priority is most appreciated.

The ice is always tricky this time of year and the somewhat warmer days do not allow much healing on those creepy looking cracks.

I plan to be fishing out of Hunters in a couple of weeks due to your top notch locating work. Have fun and be safe, Malmo Mike
