Red Door ice report 12-8-11
Permalink

I checked the ice that close to shore...oldest ice that we have. This ice measured 4 inches at 10:30am today...so it only made 1/2 inch over night.

There is less ice off shore a short distance.....less, I'm not sure as I'm waiting for the 4 inches to get over 5 inches!

thats my report for today!

Saw ya on Bobber Cam North. You need to learn to wave. Looks like you were pretty close to shore. What are the winds like on North side?

Thanks for the update

The wind has let up some....it did break open along the westside.

The ice that I have been checking is the oldest that we have close to shore.....there is another sheet that froze a day and half later...

Thanks Bobber, smile

Great reporting on the lake conditions. smilewinkbiggrin

My family in Malmo Bay says that the winds were very bad today -- in that area -- so an ice shift over on the nrothwest is hardly surprising with the wind force out there.

Keep your head down and keep an eye on Tat2jonnie.. wink

See you soon at Red Door, MM.

PS. I understand that the resort is opening a newly remodeled dining area (in the old 'rib' place). Hope to try it out when I am home. Cool.

Still pretty early. This time of year is when there's always a few that go through the ice. They don't see a pied crack and splash.

(Worst part is when they go through, the pie will float back up and trap them under the ice and it's just thick enough so you can't break it from the other side.)

You said it T2J, its early....thats why I have been checking the ice close to shore....last night was good and cold! I would hope for another inch made last night.

The conditions look pretty good out of the access up north. I plan to check it out again today. Yesterday there was an open area along the western shores from the high winds on Tuesday.

Good smooth surface.....ice cleat's needed!

Yep. I'll be wearing my ice spikes, myself. I was out yesterday without 'em and it was pretty slick. Don't want to fall on 4 inches of unstable ice.

32 degree water ain't exactly bath water temps.
