The Flats are still poppin' during the day. ALOT of big ones being caught/ slots are hard to come by. Still catching alot on the launch at Hunters at night. With the bunch I had out tonight, the count was 42 Walleyes with 9 nice 15-17" keepers.
I'm hearing ya jonnie! We were out from 6:30 - 9pm on a north flat and did good 5 keepers and biggest 27.5. Not bad with a 1 and 3 year old in the boat! Good luck all and have a fun and safe 4th!
how are the bugs, friday and friday night they were starting to pop, haven't been there all weekend......thinking of bringing a couple of rookies up tomorrow and weds but if the flys are bad then im sure they will not want to fish...
Malmo Mike and Dr. O have the "Secret Spot" They are still snapping there. Had to go home and sharpen some hooks, actually cut the grass at home..... will be back on Thursday for more action.
Not too many bugs, yet. Wear socks, though. The ankle-biting flies are there. Killer bees, too.
Don't get me wrong, Mike. The keepers are there. Ya just gotta work your way through alot of big ones to get the legal ones. It pains my heart to throw a perfectly good walleye back in the lake. I mean, which of these two fish would you rather take home to clean?

It is very tough to release those 20-24 inch beautiful fish and have to go for a 16 or 17inch fish for slot. It kills me every time I have to release a larger walleye that we have worked so hard to find and hook, especially if they got hooked deep. I try to remnove the hook very carefully with a long forceps.
That is a nice looking one you have there Jonnie. Keep up the good work.
Malmo Mike wil be back at Malmo as soon as possible.
ahhhh yes jonny, but a skillled angler such as your self knows the value of knifing the smaller one than the bigger one... And MM, you are so correct, a bleeder no matter the size is always tough to release... Great fish, tatman!!!
Last night we got into some slot-sized walleyes in 16 FOW. Out of 30 fish, we kept 18. Alot of which were 16-18". That was the best ratio I've had since the water was 62 degrees.
Had a great Thursday and Friday nights over here... Checked out a sand flat, weededge and then out to a midlake hump and found a bunch of walleyes that didn't want to let me go home. When I gave up at 3 a.m. and got in at 4 a.m., my wife said to me "You're crazy!!!" I just said the fish wouldn't quit biting!!! Lake's size limit is 18" and only managed one over, but the number of 15"-17" were amazing!!! Managed to stay with those fish the next night and the smallies joined the party and along with a friend we stayed until 3 a.m. again... a pair of smallies were 19" and two 'eyes for my friend at 18".
Had a friend who was just up to ML and stayed on the west side for their trip, just whaled on them for two days... All you ML fisherpeople make me jealous!!!
Malmo Mike will be home in two weeks to see what I can do with the walleye bite in this HOT dang weather. Sounds like you had a great time on the West side.
