Roach's Guide Service Report 5-31

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend....and a special thanks for our Service men and women who protect this great country...past and present!!!

Fishing Report....this week and weekend we really started seeing alot of slot fish feeding.  The shoreline breaks and deeper gravel/rock piles were the best for me.  There is still fish on the north and northeast sand, but there is also alot of good structure with just as many fish....and ALOT less boats.  I know people have caught fish really shallow this past week...but I have seen the most fish starting to transition off the sand flats and shoreline to the second and third breaks.  17 to 25 ft. for me this week.

The bobber bite is really good right now.  Shallow rock piles in the evenings...depth anywhere from 8 to 14 feet will produce fish.  I have been having good success with a 1/8 oz. pink Northland jig...but have seen other colors do just as well.  I really don't see alot picky bobber fish right now....just keep it small, simple two feet off the bottom and you will put fish in the boat.

Rigging has been the same since opener...long leaders, #4 or #6 red hook and your weight.  Speed has again been important this past week.  Keeping your rigs around .6mph has been the best.  Leeches seemed to take most of the fish this week...but Saturday there was a huge difference for a crawler.

Spinners with leeches or crawlers have also been taking fish these past few days along those shore breaks and sand flats.  Keeping the speed around .8 - 1.0mph seemed the best.

We checked out some mud flats this weekend as well and did find fish...big and small.  It is just an awesome time of the year for fishing Mille Lacs.

Until next week, we hope to see you on the water!

Scott
