OK, here is another question. I'm not asking for everyone's secrets, just a little help.
It seems like most people I have seen use leeches on Mille Lacs for rigging. Others, however, have told me that crawlers are the way to go with a couple puffs. Any advice on this topic?
If you use Crawlers, do you use a harness or just plain hook?
I'll use leeches pretty much all season. I bust out the crawlers in July and August. I like to rig up a couple floats and a spinner. Don't waste your money on store bought rigs. I very seldom find the color schemes I like or combinations. Plus if you do your own, you set snell length and type of line. There's something to be said for catching fish on a rig you made yourself.
Typically the first few weeks of the season I'll use leeches exclusively. Then once the water warms up more, I'll start testing with crawlers to see what they what. Later June and into July I always have crawlers and leeches on board and let the fish tell me what they want...some times the crawlers catch way more fish.
On injecting them with air, that depends on how active the fish are. If I'm marking them off the bottom, then yes inject them. Otherwise I typically don't in the mud or sand. If I'm getting snagged up in the sand/rocks, then I'll float'em some too.
As long as i am able to find good Leeches, that's my prefferance. I do use crawlers, pulling blades which I just started getting into thanks to Bobber.
