Why in in some years 03-04, is there such a high allocation yet only a minimum amount were taken ? 2003, for example, allocation was 550,000 lbs. and anglers took about 67,000 lbs. and the netters 71,000 lbs.... very weird ???
All their numbers for the lake come from Steve and his group of creel checkers. They get their info from fishermen coming off the lake. (And we all know that fishermen always tell the truth............).
As Jon stated above....The MN DNR has creel checkers that spot check accesses around the lake. They ask the questions.....and collect the data!
I remember last summer...I had a guide trip out of Hunters. I was at the dock with my customers and talking with the creel checker! (Not Steve) The person had not got to asking us how we had done on our trip when Tony came pulling in with his customers!
The creel guy wheeled around on the dock and made a statement something along the lines of" Tony always has fish" and off he went. Well my customers looked at me and said " they sure were'nt interested in our limit in the box"..... was he!!!!
I just smiled and went about my business!!!
I remember a day when the MN DNR would make some judgements on the deer herds by counting the deer shit in the woods??? any one else ever hear that one??
Malmo Mike likes Bobber's report on the DNR creel checkers best.
I will just discretely pull in the marina before Bobber arrrives; once the DNR boys see Bobber enter the marina, they will go running to count his catch (as he likely has another limit).
Malmo Mike can just sit tight until Tony Roach pulls in. He has my new Marcum sonar. Jon and I can have acold one once we have surrounded the walleyes in my boat.
Glen come have a cold one with us please, but no sasquatch please. I have not heard that story before.
Man -- I cannot wait to try out my new fishing boat on the open water. We had the otter living under the Lund S-16 boat one year -- but no sasquatch. Man those otters can move in the water and they make a heckuva a nest under a Lund stored for the winter. It only happens in Malmo.
Speaking of otters, has everybody checked their houses, yet? Last year, we had one house that was hit by varmints. The owner came up, cleaned the house up, and screwed the hole covers down.
Next time he came up, the house had been ransacked again...
All his hole covers were still in place, so he couldn't figure it out................................... until he tried to light his stove . Out flew the otter that was living in HIS STOVE!!!!!!
True story.............................. Funnier than a 20 pound Northern. By the way, I heard about that Sasquach

My Malmo Bay Otter nested under a bench seat in our over turned S-16 Lund. He sure was mad when I turned the boat over. But he was only a few feet from open water -- so he looked like a USN submarine headed out to the dead sea at full throttle. The Otter count down is under way.
How the heck did an otter get in the man's stove? That is a classic.
Hey Glen, I heard Doug talking about this dang sasquatch by your cabin area, too. Do you suppose it is a bear thats been drinking beer all winter from the neighbors? We need more sasquatch highlights and video please. Maybe sasquatch has walleye fever? Sounds like a big a** bear maybe?
Watch out for the Malmo Bay otters. We grow em big up here. They can really get into to your stuff.
They usually stay close to the lake obviously but there are no Otter rules at Hunter's Point..
Does anyone honestly know why the percentage changes each year for the netting? Common sense would say that it would be a percentage of the overall allowable harvest for the lake. Then the allowable harvest numbers would dictate how many pounds can be taken.
