Doug,

If you could, being we tucked our tail and left after weighing in a record breaking small fish limit of 7,  post the pay back amounts and payback places? How many limits were there weighed in?

I predicted 17 plus pounds to win! 14 pounds to make the money.

So--no one has the info of how many places were paid and the amounts paid to each placing team?

I think everybody knows to pretty much ignore what he says. He will stir the pot and then move to another site.

Here is a breakdown of all of our expenses and payouts for the couples tournament.

Permit $200
Trophy $100
Food set-up $4100  (crablegs, salads, tator tot hotdishes, buns, etc) and there is tax on food
Bags, printing costs $100

With 59 teams @ $200 ea.  ($11800 total) subtract our expenses that leaves $7300 in payouts.  Which is exactly what our payback was.

With this all in mind Steve, I'm not sure if you have ever ran a tournament before and catered one at the same time, but this stuff all doesn't magically happen.  It takes alot of man hours and preperation to put them on.  I hope this clears up your concern with where the money all goes.

If you think that you can do a better job putting on a tournament we encourage that you please do so.  If you do not like the way we do them, don't fish them.

I will say that the weather was crappy, can you refund half of my extra 80 bucks do to bed weather? (Even though the meal was outstanding and we had a blast). Oh, and the discount on the motel room wasn't quite enough when Chief and I closed the bar down and didn't want to drive, can you refund me some of that money too?

Just kidding of course, there is NO WHERE on the lake that takes care of it's customers more than Hunters Point, it's not even close. George and Jason are 1st class people, they just don't get much better.

Steve, ask what the payback is before you put your money in the pot next time. Oh, and maybe don't keep a box full of 13"ers, might help your bottom line.

Jason & George

My oh my....I hadn't been to this site lately and read all of this?

It's interesting that my questions about payback, which is about as a common a question in the tournament world as "how are they biting?" is/ was taken as being negative and of a complaining manner.

1. I have fished this event before, among others, run out of Hunters and never have complained, never been "concerned" and never been critical to any of you. And never will be.

2. my questions (about payback)actually came via others that asked me to do so. ( I knew coming in, from past experience, what the costs were projected to be)

3. having a "concern" about payback percentages, as ANY contestant, let alone me, should not be taken as an attack! It's a commoon "concern" at ALL levels. Posting it ahead of time helps the issue, we've learned over the years of putting big events on.

4. Jason/George---I surely realize what it takes to run tournaments and also realize, as the promoter, the margins one has to work within. ( I pioneeered walleye tournaments of ALL levels and am one of 7 owners that created the AIM circuit) And if I told one of our contstants "don't fish them"--I'd be scorned! I surely hope to be welcome in the future after asking a few questions about paybacks and standings....

In conclusion, to those who take the jabs at me, true or false, feel free to call me and let me know, personally, your thoughts. 651-270-3383
Or stop me in person someday...I'm easy to find.

And, lastly, I surely apologize for creating such a riff here. I actually was a big fan of this event and talked several of the teams into fishing it. In this regard, and on many fronts at Lake Mille Lacs, my intentions , although obviously  taken otherwise in many cases, are from a positive position and in the best of or for the best interests of  Mille Lacs fans.

I can't understand why the major defensive answers to my question/concerns? My oh my--I better think twice next time--no doubt! LOL

SF

ps. LOL   me "god"? that's a good one! LOL

I think a couples tournament should be a fun tournament and not run like the rest of them.Ya the food is great but my idea of a 7 coarse meal is a 6 pack and a hot dog.Forget the food and pay down more places instead of a few winners and 50 some loosers.I dont fish this anymore for reasons above and it seems to land on the same dates that I go Salmon fishing. This is just my opinion so I dont think I need to call.LOL

Can't we all just get along??LOL  This is a couples tournament, and a damn fine one at that.  No one is trying to pay the mortgage from this, at least I hope not.  It's a chance to get our significant others out on the water and give them a little taste of what a walleye tournament is like.  Hopefully they can get a little understanding of what it takes and why we love doing it so much.  Hunters did a great job with it, and the meal afterwards was fantastic!  I know my wife had a blast and she can't wait for next you, so mission accomplished!

I agree I always look forward to the crab legs and I know my girlfriend looks forward to fishing it as well. I think that Hunters does a great job and I will fish it again next season.
