just wondering if anybody uses a fluke style anchor on there boats. I have a navy anchor now. Just want to read some pro's and con's on differant styles of anchors.
Not sure what fluke anchor is...guessing it has 3 blades or flutes on it like a bell anchor with wedges cut out of it.
I have tried a river anchor which has a heavy main center that your rope hooks to and around the base it has 5 spikes that stick out about 8 inches. 20 lbs. Wasn't impressed with it.
The navy anchor with the blades that pivot with a 2 ft section of chain before your anchor rope has been a tried and true combination for me.
I use a small navy anchor also. Only a handful of times that it didn't hold the boat. Those where times I needed to be on land anyway. Long rope and chain is key i think.
I use a 20# river anchor it works great when its locked into some rocks on Mille Lacs those waves are a bit** sometimes. I tried using a fluke a couple years ago it did not work too good I think it was too small for my boat

28lb Navy anchor. I still have a 25lb Richter but the Navy is what gets used 99% of the time in my boat. This post reminded me to buy a new one, I left my Navy on Knight Shoal last September (with 6' of chain)
I use either my water spike with 4 feet of heavy chain attached or most of the time I have a 22 lb navy anchor with 4 feet of chain. The 22 lb navy is a wierd weight? I have a number of them and I have put them all on a scale! They do vary in weight!!
The key is use the right amount of rope......I carry 200 feet in the boat! I know someone that uses a 35 lb navy................well whenever I fish with Tom, he pull's the anchor duty!!
the 2025 pro-v has not slipped in 5 years using that anchor. i have about 110 feet ofrope on that anchor without any chain. i also have the large size water spike with chain and 200 feet of rope. i have had that one slip a time or two, even bent the flukes up some..........................tom fellegy
I run a 2025 also, I use a 30 lb ricktor anchor and have 5 feet of rubber coated chain at the anchor, make sure you run plenty if anchor rope I have 100 plus feet available, a rule of thumb for anchoring is to have use rope at a 3 to1 ratio..rope length to water depth dont be afraid to use plenty of rope, the lower the angle of attack the better you are.
sorry had to edit wrote water spike(dont know why) i have a ricktor anchor :) once they grab they are flawless!!!!
