Roach's Guide Service Report 1/12

A quick update since my last report.

We have continued to find good ice and the ability to travel off road.  We did run into some cracks when off road this week, so check with George/Jason before heading out for updated ice conditions.  Roads....roads....roads....you can get from Hunters Point to the Blue Goose in Garrison without ever leaving a plowed road.  Great access for wheel houses and fisherman to any structure on the lake you want to fish.

There was alot of people on the lake this week and fishing reports were some limits, some keepers, and some with just a few small walleyes.  We fished deep gravel and mud this week with some really good days and some average days.  It seemed that the window of aggressive fish on the top/top edges this week was very small with all the fishing pressure.  We found that alot of these fish were sliding off the top and were cruising the edges and bottom breaks.  We also caught alot of jumbo perch in the deeper water this week along with the walleyes.  We ended up spending alot of time over the weekend down on the gravel with all the fishing pressure out on the mud.  There is alot of walleyes and jumbo perch on most deep water structure right now.

We continue to have good luck with the new Macho Minnow and smaller Buckshot spoons in the gold colors.  We also turned alot of negative fish this week on the Northland Puppet Minnows.  Set lines/tip-ups were slower this week than last.  The fish seemed to want the chase instead of an easy meal.

It is great to see the numbers of jumbo perch showing up already.  We knew after last spring that perch fishing would be really good this ice season.  I have attached a Promo for our Perch Fishing Weekend at Hunters Point this March 5th, 6th, and 7th.  Meals, Lodging, Fishing Seminars and two days of guiding perch fishing are all included in this package.  If you are interested, make sure you sign up to hold your spot.  It will be a great weekend of fishing!

There are alot of people on the lake this time of year.  Usually when this happens is the time we start moving away from the familiar areas and start fishing areas with less people.  If you are set up in an area with alot of people, start working the deeper water around the structure.  Alot of these fish will slide off with all the pressure.

As always, if you are not seeing fish it is time to move.  Drill some holes up on top, on the edge or deep edge.  If you aren't seeing any fish, then try a different location.  If you are marking fish, but not getting them to commit, open the tackle box and switch up jigging spoon colors or try a swimming jig.

Tony will have more details on his podcast from our website this thursday.

It will be warmer this weekend, so come spend some time on the lake.  Until next week....we hope to see you on the ice!

Are you still using the 1/12th oz size quite a bit or has the 1/8th oz also worked well?
