I have a VS825 Marcum Underwater camera and want to record off from it.  Anyone have a good suggestion?

I use a Pinnacle Video Transfer plus a 12V to 5V converter then record to a USB Flash Stick.

Better would be a 12V DVR recorder but I haven't tried any.

I know others use older camcorders that have a video input.

Idon't want to have a big camera along to record on and was hoping for a small stand alone until, so with this do you need a Lapptop?  Does the Pinnacle Video Transfer plus a 12V to 5V to usb go directly to the USB?

No PC required and it records directly to a USB thumb drive.  It's simple except for the 5V required to power the Pinnacle device.
