Hey... the Bobber cam has become my all time favorite web cam. Somehow, I just feel a little bit better when I am at work and I can take a look a Mille Lacs through the bobber cam.
I have a question and unfortunately I may have to include more info later to get it properly answered. I recently was introduced to a very cool app on the iphone/itouch that lets users browse, set as favorites, and look at web cams all over the world. I have enjoyed the app on my itouch. Currently, I have a strange brew of cams set as my favorites: One of Mt. Fuji in Japan, a couple in Duluth to watch the ships or incoming surf, one on the U of M campus, one located at someone's house on Lake Minnetonka, etc. etc. Of course the first one I searched for was the bobber cam but it wasn't an option. I also noticed that ANYONE could enter a web cam with basic information (camera type/brand, web location, etc.)
So, I am wondering if someone could post the basic bobber cam info so I could get it added to the list of world wide cameras available through that ipod/iphone application? As I said, I may have to post again because I don't have my ipod on me and I can't remember the exact list of required information to get a camera listed through that application.
Arrg. I wish I had my ipod with me (I will post the details when I have it in my hands tonight). I belive the name of the app is "Live Cams" and its icon is green with a white web cam image on it.
I will double check to see if the information here is sufficient or list the requirements when I am home tonight. I'll try to add it and if I fail I will "punt" to Doug since you have an iphone. My kid actually bought the application for his ipod but since he uses my itunes I could get it too. I'm pretty sure it is just one of those cheap $1 apps and I think it may currenty be on their best seller list.
Thanks for the quick replies.

Okay... I tried - and failed - last night. After looking through the Live Cams help information, I think I partially know why.
All their instructions are related to getting a PERSONAL web cam loaded so it can be viewed privately. I was assuming I was looking for information to get the camera on their global list but I am only seeing instructions on how to set up a personal web cam for one user.
Maybe I am missing something, but through that process I found their actual website (complete with instructions, help, support, etc.
I did send their "support" an email this morning asking for instructions on how to get a camera available to their general audience. I also tried, and failed, to set up a personal camera (bobber cam) last night.
I do think it needs an IP address to get the Bobber cam set up as a personal camera - not sure if that is getting into things that are too specific security-wise or not.
Hi! Didn't mean to butt in here... I get a big kick out of watching the Bobber Cam myself from more than a few miles away, but I don't think you're going to be able to view it on your iPhone. The cam uses a Flash viewer, and the iPhone doesn't support Flash.
That is why this App WILL work. I agree, if you go directly to the website to view it. But, that is the whole purpose of the ipod/iphone app... it allows webcams of all types to be viewed through the application, on an iphone or ipod.
I exchanged emails with the application developer (the guy responded very quickly) and he asked me if I was the camera owner.Obviously, he wants approval from the owner/operator prior to making the camera available publicly through his application. So, I am at that point where I will “punt” because I don’t want to pretend I am someone I am not.He said the camera can be added if the owner/operator contacts him with the following set of standard information:
Camera Name (as it would appear in the app)
Camera make/model
Country and Region where the camera is located
Host/port or URL to the image
Given Doug’s information provided earlier, I could answer all this and get it up there but I don’t want to be an imposter.
He also mentioned that there would be potential bandwidth problems if the camera is a popular one on the application (given the potential number of users wishing to view any camera at one time). With that in mind, he said he will remove a camera at any time if the owner/operator emails him asking him to do so.I’ve noted a lot of personal web cams available on the app, such as the one overlooking Lake Minnetonka from someone’s yard. So, I’m assuming there wouldn’t be a bandwidth problem for the Hunter’s Point website but if I were incorrect on that, it could always be removed.
So, Doug, if you want the bobber cam available on the iphone app, just email the following address stating who you are, and including the requested information. That will make it available on the Live Cams iphone application.
I haven't been able to pull it up yet but I may have been searching under the wrong place(s). I am going to look again tonight and I'll let you know. Looking forward to it.
I used the application's search option and couldn't find it in any of the searches I performed. I also tried looking it up under other general options such as landscape, marinas, resorts, etc. I even looked at an alpha list of all US based web cams and couldn't find it that way either.
Are you sure you may not just have it set up as a personal camera? I just can't find it through any of their public search options, even when I use the exact spelling "BobberCam (Mille Lacs Lake, MN)" or any part of that.
