I have bought my first ice house, 10x18 located at Hunters. Having done little ice fishing and never had an ice house before, I'm looking for advise on where to have it placed on the lake? At least this first year I don't see myself having it moved around much if at all once it's placed.
So any suggestions on where to place it would be helpful. What kind of structure and where on or off of that structure to place it? Are there any other things I should consider? I would be targeting walleye but I would be open to a multi species location.
Tough question here. I try and do some prefishing or go from years past experience on where and when. You don't have that luxury by the sound of it. Hunters point structure is usually a good choice for early ice.
If your gonna plop down for the duration... in past years, when I would do this, I would look for 18-20 feet of water, on the edge of a rockpile. This has been what I have had the best luck with, throughout a season. Nice to have a big house out, to stay in and keep the portable handy for daily trips !!!
If you set up close to house #49 you might want to move. Last year when I moved in everybody was gone by the following weekend???
I'm not sayin I'm a JINX but I haven't been slayin them either.
So where is hard luck #49 going to start the season? Might I suggest the north west corner of White Bear Lake ( bring a shovel ). Jason please don't put mine near #49!
Not to worry iwalleye.......give me your house number and some coordinates and I'll take care of the rest.
What's that number again? I just don't seem to remember.
In all seriousness I would be honored to put my house next to yours. I’m sure I could learn a lot from you! Then we can watch everyone else move on as we fish and catch nothing together.
