Steve Carney Article in Outdoor News Anybody get a chance to read this article? What lake is he talking about? It can't be Mille Lacs. He says there is a lack of small walleye the last couple years. In my opinion the year classes for 07 and 08 had to be pretty strong with all the 10"-14" walleye I have seen. What do you think?
When I read that article I was mystified. I couldn't understand his logic at all. I can't count how many 9-10" walleyes I have caught in the lake that I release very carefully in hopes of them growing up!
There has been some traffic on this topic on other forums...I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Steve Carney tries to clarify his stance in this week's ODN.
For the past 4 weeks while pulling crankbaits I have caught 10 to 1 walleyes under 14 inches. There is a great abundance of fish in that range. The walleye fishing will be outstanding next year.
That article is and was a joke, I think you would need to fish Mille Lacs more then 1 day or 1 weekend to come to that assumption. If you did fish it even for 1 day would not write that...Mille Lacs keeps showing why it is one of the premier walleye fisheries!
Maybe it his technique or locations ??? I for one think the lake is going pretty strong. I could not believe all the small eyes 3-5" that I seen on my camera this past winter. Between them and the 1" perch, there was always action on the screen. I also have caught my share of 8-10" eyes this year too.
