We were at Hunters beach Friday afternoon (7/3) with the kids.  This was probably our best year without the chiggers, out of 6 of us only one had a few bites.  We showered right after getting out of the water and told the kids not to play in the sand, we stayed away from the shore as well.

My neighbor had it really bad, from his time spent up on the northshore "Hogs Back " area....He had some bad things going on in some lower parts of his body!!!!

I'll be staying on shore myself!! showers work well enough.........

Got Ducks???  Got Swimmer's Itch...

Swimmer's itch is caused by a parasite (don't know its name off the top of my head) that travels through the systems of the duck and snail.  Their hatchlings, called cicaria, burrow into your skin thinking you are a duck.  You don't towel off after spending a lot of time in wind blown shore areas, say 1-3' and then don't towel off good, you'll get 'em.  Some people don't react to them, but others do and sometimes badly.  So if you  got ducks, DON'T FEED THEM!!!

JUST SOMETHING THAT WORKS FOR MY FAMILY IS BUG SPRAY. SPRAY IT ON AND RUB IT IN AND LET IT DRY, GET THE WATERPROOF KIND, HIGHER THE DEET THE BETTER. IF YOU DON'T PUT IT ON YOU GET THE ITCHY RESULTS. THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE.

I, too, had the same problem with my dog, but I fought it and rinsed it with clean water and it seemed to make her feel better. I have a big fat dog, he was floundering in the water for a long time and I did not even think that this could happen to my dog. Our veterinarian said that the dog gotten into trouble with this problem because he eats balanced HI-TOR Veterinary Select Reduso Diet Dry Dog Food, 20-lb bag and therefore his immune system protected him.
