This past week while pre-fishing for the Annual Nitti’s Hunters Point Resort walleye tourney we were Kr-plunk’n! One might ask, "what is Bobber leading us to believe now"? Well Doug Ertl and I have witnessed other Mille Lacs anglers bobber fishing while on the lake without the aid of an anchor. Many Mille Lacs anglers are moving around on a structure locating fish on their electronics and casting out their slip bobber. They are doing this while maintaining a very slow drift or forward movement. Locating the fish on your electronics is your first objective. Once you mark some fish cast out your slip bobber and wait for the bite.
This past Thursday Doug and I located some fish on the gravel. We didn’t have many spots that held fish, but did come up with a plan for the tourney on Friday. We had planned to pull blades, but found out that the fish wanted the bait slow and right in front of their noses. Pulling blades with huge crawlers was first on my list of methods to try, but ended up heading back up to Malmo and buying more leeches for our bobber fishing plan. Pre-fishing we caught a few fish while pulling blades, but the Kr-plunk’n was the go to method for the tourney.
Friday was day one of the two day tourney and Doug and I had a pretty good day. We brought in our seven slot fish for a weight of 10.16 lbs. Good enough for 16th place on the leader board. We were all surprised by the weights in the 10-11 pound range. Topping the leader board on Friday was the team of Leo Houle and Steve Stanius at 11.31 lbs. It was pretty clear that we were not the only ones that were on active fish. Doug and I caught all our fish while bobber fishing the gravel in 25-29 fow. We caught and released 6 more slots on Friday that fell on the short side of our tourney slot of 13 to less than 18 inches. The 6 released fish were 13 -14.5 We caught and released 30-40 fish on Friday, maybe more....
Fishing on Saturday was a different story. Our over cast skies cleared off and we had bright sunshine. It was pretty warm on Saturday causing a couple of fellow anglers some problems with the heat and too much sun. You really have to be prepared an any given day while out on the lake, keeping up on with adequate fluid intake includes drinking water as often as possible. We started out catching a couple of fish early but our day soon slowed up. We managed to catch fish on Saturday but not as many. We ended the day with 5 slots for a weight of 7.29 lbs. Good enough for 17th place with a weight of 17.45 lbs.
Leo and Steve finished 1st with another good day on Saturday with 10. 81 lbs for a total of 22.12 lbs. $7,000.00
Kirk Decamp and Terry Maanum took second with a weight of 21.55 lbs $4,000.00
If you have not ever tried the Kr-plunk’n method it might be a good time to give it a try. The bite on Mille Lacs is going pretty strong right now. With the summer moving along with each turn of the page on the calendar it might be time to make the trip and give it a try. Good luck and have fun Kr-plunk’n your bobber!

I thought Kr-Plunk'n was you and big D jumping in and digging those fish out from between the rocks. Kind of like walleye noodling. Seriously this Kr-Plunk'n seems like a very effective technique. Why do you think this is more effective than rigging these same fish?

Fife- Talking to Josh and Chris who where pulling rigs in the same area we where. They picked up fish when they would make turns on the inside line enforcing what we had going with a real slow presentation. Plunking those fish when we picked them up on the graph was the way to go.
