The problem came up last season with the MN DNR changing the limit that George was going to be allowed for his June event. If I remeber correctly, they told him he was going to only be allowed a 4 fish daily limit with the two day format. The DNR has some say with the tournaments as they issue the permits for these events to be held.
I hope they allow a two day event with something other than 4 fish!
Also want the 2-day event. I think it cost us about $1700 in winnings by having 2 one-day. I think it shows the more consistent fishermen rather than the teams that happen to catch a big fish one day and cashing a big check for it.
Jaybird, I 100% agree with you. I don't like the 2-1 day tourneys for the same reasons. I would rather see consistent anglers that produce for two days cash a big check, rather then someone that zeroes day one and then catches a 28.5 on day two. Hopefully the DNR allows the tourney to go back to the way it used to be.
Of course better fisherman want two day events. Those of us that can put 7-8 slot fish in the box per day can overcome the weight of one lucky angler that lands a 29 incher. George understand that as well. He was just stuck with what the DNR forced him into last year. The DNR did the same thing to the MTT on their two day event in August. It makes no sense to me. We killed more fish by having two one day events that could weigh 7 fish each versus a two day that could weigh 4 fish per day. So I am not sure what point the DNR is trying make. If anyone understands their point of view on this I would love to know why?
I also prefer the 1 tourney (2days) over the 2 x 1 day format.
The August MTT was 2 days, 8 fish total and it worked out fine for me!
The big question is, if the DNR only approves 4 fish a day with the 2 day format, will everyone still want to fish it?
I understand why George and other resort owners switched to the 2 x 1 format, it allowed everyone fishing it the chance to bring more fish to the scales, which also gets more fishermen to sign up. That wasn't exactly in the conservation spirit the DNR had planned, but then again, they issued the permits, so maybe its a mute point. They (the DNR) understand that all the resorts are trying to pay the bills.

Good question, I don't think allot of us want to fish two day tourneys that only weigh 4 fish per day, I know I did not like it, I would have much preferred to weigh 6-7 fish per day in a two day format. But hey, most of us will fish it anyway they set it up, because we are all competitive and addicted to fishing tourneys. By the way Jack, Nice job in that MTT tournament.
Jack they have a web cam on your spot I think the cat's out of the bag buddy.
OK, as far as the tournament goes we have been doing some thinking. From what I have been reading and seeing on here, it seems as though some people do not want to fish if it is 2 one day events, but nobody would be disappointed with a two day event. correct me if I am wrong.
The DNR rules state that whether it is a one day tournament or two each participant is allowed to weigh ONE LEGAL LIMIT PER EVENT. So here is what we are thinking; We are going to have two one day tournaments but the format will be as follows. It will be two one day tournaments again, BUT the payouts will be determined from the combined weights of both days.
3 times last season people called me on my cell phone while I was guiding and asked me how big that fish was we just released!! Why? Because they were watching me on the web cam.
If you don't believe me, ask Doug. I've been busting his chops over this since day 1.
This year I'm carrying my wire cutters with me!!

I guess that is one way around the 4 fish limit. I think i can live with that. Something about putting together a limit over back to back days seperated the Hunter's tourney from all of the one day events on the lake.
I will be able to dig into the summer stuff a little more once we get through this next week, so hopefully by the end of the month we will have something, if not it will be shortly there after.
I just received the 2009 Hunters Point Tournament 13th annual walleye tournament details and sign up sheet. It appears the format is again spelled out as a two day event. Since my partner and I would much prefer to fish a two day event, which it appears other teams would also prefer, are you confident that you can work around the 4 fish per day DNR restriction for a two day event? I would like to understand prior to signing up.
