My buddies and I are heading up next weekend to the west side of the lake. I plan on heading to Gander this weekend to pic up some new stuff to bring along with me. Can you guys give me some tips on what to use? Also, which are working better fatheads or shiners? Anybody having luck on Northerns? Thanks for the help.
I can promise you this - you will catch the same amount of fish whether you use a glow devil with the head of a fathead or you tie your empty beer can to the bottom of your line . Well sometimes it feels like that I am sure that is the kind of answer you were looking for. Use whatever you have - the only "hot" thing I have heard anyone mention this year is YELLOW Have fun
What Rich forgot to mention is that if you go the beer can route, you must change bait every 20-30 minutes. Bring your Long-Johns this weekend and GOOD LUCK !!
i used almost every jig in my tackle box this weekend. the perch seemed to like a couple of them but as for the walleyes they where in somone elses pond i guess. only thing that worked for me was a plain hook color red with a fat head on it. got a 28 1/4 this weekend but that was the only thing i got other than drunk!
Jigged yellow, orange and perch...nothing I got a couple of lite hits on the rattle wheel unable to finish the deal. Hope the lake "turns on" soon I'm running out of beer money.
we fished from fri. aft. to sunday we got 6 walleye in the slot. all but one on small shiner. minnows. one in a fat head. no pirch to be found where we were around 5 pm or so was time??
I would like to share my experience of night fishing. In my experience with night fishing, the fish is most like live bait. They smell the smells emanating from them, hear movements. I have also noticed that some fish are attracted by noisy surface baits. I was also lucky with glow-in-the-dark baits for which I used Fluid bed pigment . I love to fish in a city where streetlights are shining on the water. I like to see what is happening around me. Of course, any time is a good time for fishing. Just have some fun!
