Got out a little bit over the some what wet weekend. Didn't have to put to much time in the boat to get rid of a half pound of leeches. Fishing was absolutely crazy evenings 8 - 10. Fished 18 foot over rocks and breaks with water temp at about 58. Caught fish from all year classes. If you didn't have a fish within 3-4 minutes something was wrong. Chaos is having 5 people in the boat with 4 of the 5 having fish on. Fun times.
all year classes....really? that's NOT what "our DNR" has been finding!! dnr says 80 percent of the fish caught are from the 2013 year class of fish. They also said last week that these 2013 year fish can vary from 10 up to 16 inches???
what's your thoughts on that deal..................I know what mine is!

10-16 inches same class of 2013. Well that explains some of the thought process I have seen go into this ordeal. I have zero confidence in our Dept of NATURAL resources
Very good illustration Bob. One has to wonder? I too was told by a DNR person that walleyes I caught last February from 13-17" were all from the 2013 year class. I suppose there could be differences between male and female but I couldn't quite believe a 4" size difference would still be the same year class??
With the abundance of ALL size walleyes, (Except for over 28", which is what the MN DNR were trying to create with their slots) it PROVES that the educated idiots at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are completely out of touch with what is happening with Mille Lacs Lake.
They started to say that the forage was down and that's why the bite has been off the hook.
I am seeing so much forage in EVERY form from minnows to crayfish to bug hatches (Mayflies coming this week) and the "biologists" who don't have a clue have backed off this erroneous assumption.
They've set up their "mortality" nets to study the survival rates of released walleyes, which will be MANY if the bite continues. Thing is, it takes them YEARS to conduct these tests and study the results to determine the regulatory "treaty" management of the lake.
As a result of taking three years to study, by the time they make the regulations the lake has changed. Just like it did in 2014 when they gave their useless data to their renowned "blue ribbon panel of experts", who said there were no small walleyes, when we were catching hundreds every day.
They think they are being so smart, but as noted in the above posts, they are only showing the world how incredibly STUPID they really are..............
I want you to thank for your time of this wonderful read!!! I definately enjoy every little bit of it and I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff of your blog a must read blog!
The water temperatures in Malmo Bay and Agate Bay were very consistent at 45 and 46 degrees. We had a good healthy walleye chop on Saturday opening morning that aided our fishing rock/gravel structure near Fishers in 16 f.o.w.
I land my ceremonial nice walleye fishing in 15 f.o.w. and it was a nice healthy walleye in the live well. The bite was moderate throughout Saturday morning with about 5 bites total in a 3 hour time frame.
Later the lake calmed out which negated a good drift presentation that we were working.
The Bomber Boat performed well but the dead calm later Saturday was nice for sitting on our deck and watching the eagles, buffalo head ducks and other new arrivals.
Everyone got a bite or two but it was moderate to slow at times. Best I heard was 8-10 caught and released. We kept only one good upper slot walleye.
June 1st-June 2nd: Malmo Bay report: Walleye Chop and Mallards.
A pretty nice weekend at the lake; after some tricky welding repairs, the Callies' Dock is now in place for watching the ducks, geese and loons. Several mallards are patrolling the area and buffalo head ducks have their landing patterns. We have our normal nesting Mallards.
