Red Door Resort ice report 1-5-2013
Permalink

Saturday January 5th

Pulling houses is about done. Ice travel is fine about anywhere once you have crossed the crack via our bridge along shore in our area. Snow cover on the ice is about 2 inches with very little drifting.

Ice is about 15-16 inches throughout the area. Can't say it enough--"drive 10 mph. or less! PLEASE look at your speedometer."

Fishing reports are "spotty". Some are saying "Great" and some syaing "slow". Both the deep water along the mudflats (30 plus feet) and the deep water( 27-30 ft.) along shore are producing good catches. A plain hook/minnow/bobber is the best lately.

Remember, ice conditons change on the big lake. Be very vigilant as you drive--even if you have been over an area many times before without issues. SLOW!!!

Great report Bob but it seems some people are just not heeding your warnings to keep speeds low. I don't know how many idiots came barreling past my shack at least 30 plus!  Sucks that some are in such a hurry to go nowhere fast, jeopardizing all our safety

Bobber is falling behind....LOL

Monday January 7th

First and foremost, THANK YOU to everyone who made The Red Door your Lake Mille Lacs access point this past weekend. We look forward to seeing many of you again soon.

Ice conditions are fine with very little snow making cross country travel easy. Banking snow is precious these days. We have a consistent 16 inches of ice now in all areas.

The warming temps will make the live crack close to shore shift, most likely, so one never knows if the crack and bridge need grooming until it happens. Thanks for your patience if we are working on it when you arrive or as you depart from the lake.

Fishing reports are pretty good for the most part. 28-30ft. of water along shore is good for most and some good reports are also coming in from the various mudflats. Low light periods are best as usual. Of course, some reports are not so good too. "That's fishing"!

Yep, we have a shower house on shore back in the fish house park. Its a pay for water type! You need to get a key from the office. Which will require a deposit for the keys use. Its like a dollar for a few minutes of shower time!!! something like that! I know I should know more.....

hope this helps!

To many people in a hurry......If you just take a look around sometime and watch peoples life styles......hurry here, hurry there! it's all about going and being someplace.

I've taking the time to tell someone about using good judgement when on the ice, and how long does it last..not very long. Untill they experience it first hand...they won't change. You look at speed limits on the hyways....you drive 55 mph in a 55 zone...guess what? you will be the slow one on e the road.

guess I'm getting old! I'm done.......
