Here's a report I first heard from Gene Miller of Miller's Muskies:
It was reported to me by a Mille Lacs Resort owner that a 54.8# Musky was taken by gill net today on the east side of Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. It was supposedly 56" long. That is all the information I have at this time. If true, it likely would be a Minnesota state record if it had been taken by hook and line.
Update: I talked to again to the source and this information comes directly from the Aitkin Fisheries office.
Here's a video from yesterday,( they didn't know the camera was rolling)
I knew I should never have watched that... Ruined my day. Gotta love that all the boats in these videos have WS on them. Where is the native from the 1970s commercials with the tear in his eye now?
I have formally asked the DNR to put out a press release, as they would on a hook and line record catch, about this netted fish. As of now...they are deflecting the story to GLIFWC.
GLIFWC is like the fox guarding the hen house......
I talked to the GLIFCW C.O. at the Malmo landing this morning. He asked not to be filmed, but stated that the trophy Muskie didn't come from that landing yesterday. However, take a look at my video from yesterday morning. Not a C.O. in sight.
Oh, by the way, that Indian from the 70's with a tear in his eye? He's an actor from Italy.........

I urged the Mn. DNR in Aitkin today to send a press release out on the record muskie catch. I see it on the Messenger site now....and we will see if the Tribune etc. covers this. I know for a fact they have the story in hand.
I had boats running around out on the lake at 12:30am last evening? What they were doing who knows? picking nets....they were running at a pretty fast speed............
