What a difference a week makes....spending our entire season so far along the shoreline breaks....we were very happy to drill our way out last weekend to find the cracks out front of Hunters had 8" of ice instead of 40 yards of open water!
Finally being able to drill holes over some deep rocks, gravel bars, or mud flats was the plan this week.....and the fish are everywhere. Not only are the walleyes everywhere....they are hitting your jig like they still think it is mid december. Keeping your jig 3-4 feet off the bottom....jigging aggressive until the fish show up....then quickly changing to a slow/subtle twitch has produced most fish this week. The Gold or Hot Perch 1/12 oz Macho Minnow continued to out produce all other jigs for us this week.
George and Hunters have roads as far as the eye can see. They are allowing truck travel on all their roads...which covers everything out to 2 mile...and the road out to the Boot mud flat. We did find a large ice heave that starts just south and west of the Blue Jug and heads straight west. This heave has thin ice (less than 10") in areas and some slush/wet areas. The heave is high in some places and is a heave field in others. We recommend to stay out of this area even on atv/snowmobile for now. The heave basically seperates the mud flats....Center/Greggs/Fischers/ Boot ect to the south....all the rest north of it.
Now is the time to get up to the lake....Lots of big fish this week and lots of fish to take home. We only have 5 weeks left of the walleye season!
