Ice Augers.....

I am in the market for a new ice auger. With the many brands and options available, making an informed decision is proving difficult. Two vs four stroke, electric and even propane. MLLF readers are the experts and I am looking for any advice. The auger will be utilized in a wheeled house and I am trying to get away from the two stroke exhaust smell. Any suggestions appreciated.....Thanks.

Hit up the Ice show. Talk to all the vendors at the same location.

The use of a "good" 2 stroke oil makes a difference also! The 4 strokes are alittle more money....I don't think much of the propane Jiffy!.....guess I don't think much of the jiffy auger in general! The older Tec.motor heads were better than their new design. Just my 2cents here

Irishjigs..... I agree that is the nicest auger. I have been given the option of what style of blades to put on it, all for same price. Go with the standard or the blades that come with the electric model....step blades? Any thoughts?

You would have to ask someone with experience opening holes in ice houses, as I have only had the standard blades.  I'm not sure if the electric/step blades make a difference or not?

Chipper blade for re-open holes, standard lazer blades for drilling new holes.
