Fishing Report 9-26-11

The reports around the Red Door Resort are improving over the past week. Some fish are starting to come from the shoreline trolling during the dark of night. Trolling shad raps and minnow baits in the 8-12 ft areas has put the fish in the boat. More slot fish are coming to the landing net than the bigger fish at this time. As the water temperature continues to cool down we will continue to see more and more big fish being caught. We are still hearing some reports come in with fish being caught on lead core trolling small crank baits. These fish are coming in during the daytime out in 26-28 fow. The fish cleaning shack has shown the success over the past week also. More guts in the buckets! = more fish being caught!

The October full moon is just three short weeks away. Time to make your plans and get up to the lake and catch some dandy walleye.

I think the problem is people wanting to take the easy way out. When I talk to people who do not know the lake, I tell them to expect to put some time in trying different areas and techniques. I have had inexperienced people in my boat say," look at those boats. The fish must be biting over there." I reply,"It's possible. But they are biting here, too. By the way, you're bobbers under." Fishing the lake one time a year is not going to typically produce a successful experience, unless a guide or experienced person is along. I believe this is how the lake gets a bad reputation. People chase the crowds, don't do the homework, and are upset at lack of success. Most of those who are successful on a regular basis have countless stories of nonsuccessful days and hours of trial and error. That's how I got hooked on fishing the lake. Putting in the time and finding success by getting advice and trial and error.
