During the last week the fishing at the Red Door Resort has been up one day and down the next. More slower days than better this past week. The walleye can be found one day to only have them be gone the next. One spot can be pretty good one day and not the next. My experiences have been this past week lindy rigging the mud flats still my best presentation. Long rigs tipped with large and jumbo leeches. Fishing the edges of the flat either the top edge or move down to the bottom lip of the flat. 22 to 28 fow has been the ticket. Some days the fish can be found right on top of the flat also. The lead core has been good for some while not for others. Some good reports of smallmouth action on the shallow rocks over the past week. Tube jigs have been the best method for the smallies. During the month of August don’t for get the shallow walleye that can be found on the shallow rocks. These fish can be caught during the low light periods and with some wind during the day time. We have also had some open cabins during the past week. If you have been thinking about a time to get away from the rat race, give the Red Door a try. Nice quite setting with a big swimming pool right out your door. Its called Mille Lacs Lake. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Thanks for the excellent report and good recommendations.
This is very valuable for me -- as I am home in just two days at Malmo Bay. Your rigging and depth information is a great help. I will stop in at Red Door to see if you are around.
Hopefully, I will have some luck on long snells and good leeches as I did on my last visit in late June. That is my favorite way to feel and take some walleye.
I know they are harder to work for right now and the water temp is quite different. That is why it is called Mille Lacs Lake EH?
"The lead core has been good for some while not for others....."
Good report, Bobber! Was up last week and almost gave up on the leadcore until I bumped up the speed a bit. 3 to 3.5 is not too fast to trigger a bite. It's like you need to tick 'em off with that crank zipping by. Also, run them up a little higher. Like 6-8 or even 10 foot off bottom.
Keepers up to 20 inches now!! Good luck out there!
