This past week the key to putting fish in the boat for this angler has been fishing clean water. Over the past week I have noticed a lot of bait, along with bugs hatching in the water column. Looking for cleaner water has been the key to catching more fish. The mud flats have also been the best option as far as locations go. Fishing the top edge or along the break has been a good starting point in targeting your fish. The best depths have been from 22-26 fow. Watch your locator for fish and save some time with only dropping your line down if you have some fish on the locator. The fish are moving and can be in one area and gone on the next pass. Long lindy rig’s tipped with large and jumbo leeches have been working the best. The crawler spinner bite has not been that good for this angler. I find that I’m putting more fish in the boat with leeches on rigs these days. The action around the Red Door Resort has been mixed. Many July anglers are stuck on what has worked in the past, when it might be better to change to another presentation. This summer has been one much different than others in the past. I normally would have been fishing crawlers and spinners much more than the lindy rig’s. I’m always prepared to do whatever it takes, but pulling lindy rigs has been the ticket. Water temperatures have reached the upper 70's and I have seen 80 on a few occasions.

I've been seeing the same temps. Last night it was 79 degrees. This is the time of year that separates the real fishermen from the wannabes. (Anybody can catch 'em when they're committing suicide!)
With the big moon, alot of fish are in shallow feeding on the crayfish that are molting right now.
