The reports are still coming in on Lake Mille Lacs with great results for the end of June. The walleye are getting caught on the rocks during windy days and during the sunset hours in the evening. The gravel on the southern third of the lake has been really good as an option. The mud flats have been kicking out some dandy fish also. My experience on the mud is that I’m catching a lot of fish over the protected slot size. My big fish this week was a monster of a fish coming to the boat at just under 29 inches. This fish was caught on a long lindy rig tipped with a leech on the gravel. The areas on the gravel have been the transition spots in 26-32 fow. The edges of the flats have been the best areas to target. My suggestion would be to trust your electronics and look for the fish before you wet your line. I’m finding that in most cases the fish are in small schools and can be located and targeted fairly easy if you use your graph. The water temperature has been holding in the 63 -64 degree range due to the winds and recent rains. The great fishing should continue in the month of July. I’m looking forward to some warm sunshine very soon......
Same thing I am seeing out there. Like Bobber says, Graph 'em and fish'em. The fish are in many areas of the lake. Bobber fishing over them work well also.
Rumor has it the WEAM (Walleye Enlargement Association of Minnesota) has been pumping steroids into the lake through one of the tributaries on the north end.
Remember about 8-9 years ago? The bigger walleyes were skinny! I fished a tournament where the big fish was 29 inches and only weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz.
That pretty well covers it, Jon. She kicked butt and the walleyes.
I still have a gift for you fplks, as I ran outta time on this last trip. So now I have to come home again to Malmo Bay real soon...the perfect excuse to go fishing in the Malmo Bay Bomber Boat.
I will NOT attempt to outfish Jody (or you) Jon ...dude.
