By the looks of the fish cleaning stations around the lake...I don't need to tell any of you that the fish are biting! Some great reports and videos over the past week as well.
We have been on the water everyday since my last report and the fish are absolutely on every piece of structure. With water temps warming...slowly....I would say we are just in the beginning of the best stretch of fishing.
We had limits of fish caught in the NE sand flats this weekend, we had fish caught around shallow and deep rock piles, fish are on the deep gravel bars all over the lake and the fish are starting to show up more and more on the mud flats. Rigging long leaders and leeches or crawlers....and spinners are producing fish. The rocks and deep gravel have been a better ratio of keepers vs. big fish this past week...and the mud has been more the opposite ratio for us. But who is complaining?
The fish are starting to school up...so spend some time graphing before wetting a line. It seems like days with the wind blowing we are seeing the fish shallow, and little or no wind the fish are hanging around the deeper break lines.
Some of the big wind days this past week were really good for day time bobber bites on the shallow rocks as well. It is really good as mentioned before for the evening bobber bite. Seems like a wave of activity around 7...then 8...then again around 9.
I hope everyone has a chance to get up and go fishing. Until next week....We hope to see you on the water!
The fish are schooling right now, like Scott said. The big trick is finding the right year class school. (they school up in year classes.) Because they grow up to 4 inches or so a year, the best school to fish would be a 4-5 year class. After throwing most fish caught back, you'll be seeing soon what class you have down there.
If you find the right class, you'll be getting a much better ratio for the livewell.
You're right, Scott. With 63 degree water, they've gotten alot more aggressive. I think this will be a great weekend for the bite, cuz they're hittin' like they mean it now.
