Well...typical opener weather..only to be followed by beautiful weather this week! I hope everyone had a good time and by the sounds of it...everyone caught at least some fish.
We started out with water temps around 43 saturday morning and have seen those temps climb this week to upper 40's and even above 50 surface temp in the afternoons. As the water temps have gone up the rigging bite for me has gotten better. We are seeing more active fish in the sand, around the rock/gravel bars, and the shoreline transition areas. Bobbering shallow rock piles early/late light has been very good this week as well.
A couple things that have seemed to produce more fish this week for us is leader length and speed. We started out on opening weekend with 7-8' leaders and realized that longer leaders were producing more fish each trip (10-12'). Speed is also very important this time of year with the cooler water temps. Best speeds this week have been .5 - .7mph.
Pretty typical early season fishing patterns. Early mornings the fish are shallow and as the day goes on we have been seeing the fish slide off the structures. Don't be afraid to move off the structure to the second or even third breaks during the day.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Until next week...We hope to see you on the water!
Thnaks Scott....OMG that is a lunker walleye. I have been running 7-8 snell's and keeping the drift or boat movement brisk. Please turn on the water temp heater a bit...
