Roach's Guide Service Report 2-2

A quick note on what we have found on the lake this past week.

The warmer weather and cloud cover really turned the walleyes on last week.  We went from small windows of aggressive fish to finding lots of fish roaming the tops.  These walleyes were very aggressive....chasing your macho minnow up 4-5 feet off the bottom.  Several big fish and lots of keepers each day....and as soon as the weather started to shift back to frigid, so did the walleye's.  By the weekend we were seeing most of the fish hanging back out in the deeper water around the structure.

Just like last week....concentrating off the deep side of the breaks produced some walleyes, perch of all sizes and LOTS of Tullies.  When we fished the deeper water, we downsized our jigs to the forage minnows.  You can still turn fish on the Macho in deeper water, but the Tullies and medium perch seemed to favor the smaller spoon.  Crappie heads for Jumbo perch and walleyes and euro's for Tullies and Perch.

The perch bite has been the most consistent on the lake this past week.  Perch of all sizes are everywhere.  Deep water off the flats, gravel bars and rock piles has produced...these fish are roaming around these structures.  Even sitting in one spot has produced a bucket of perch at the end of the day.  Seems like you will catch alot of 4-6" and then a 13"...then a 11"...then back to 4-6" fish.  An hour later, the cycle starts all over again.  Mixed in with the perch cycles is a constant Tullie sighting.

The transition breaks along the lake have also produced some nice perch this past week.  The breaks are not holding as many Tullies or smaller perch.....these areas are mostly bigger perch and when they come through.....it is jumby time!  The difference is that it is either feast or famine on the breaks.  Not alot of fish catching in between jumbos here....unlike the deep water around the gravel and mud.

I hope this helps....until next week, we hope to see you on the ice!
