had my best luck using a silver shiner 1/16 oz forage minnow spoon with the tri-hook taken off and a single hook added to the split ring with a quik snap then i would use a minnow head for the first perch or two then once the whole school would move in to get it they would take a whole minnow it gets to be like a feeding frenzy down there!
I have been fishing out of a permanent house and using one jigging rod with 1/16 oz gold jig (I've had this jig for years don't remember what it's called but it is on the same order as a forage minnow) with minnow head and on my rattle wheel I went to a #10 plain hook and a live crappie minnow. So far this year I have been getting Perch in the 6"-9" range, in other words right under Jumbo size, but the bite has been consistent during mid-day. If I went mobile I would probably find the jumbos in deeper water. The few I have seen on my camera aren't very aggressive allowing the smaller Perch to take my bait. I have switched colors to orange and green/yellow combos but gold seems to be their favorite.
PS: Pout seem to like white after it has been flashed and about 6" off the bottom.
