Did anyone move their house this past weekend? I'm coming up tomorrow and plan on moving...I haven't move since the rain and warm weather.
I would like to know if I'll be chipping for hours. The weather forecast has the temperature in the single digits so the banking will probably be hard as a rock.
Rick, one of the tricks I use is turning on the heat and opening the holes up. Then, I use my pickax to get to the center of the skid. I get my track jack under the skid and jack the side up. It'll bust the banking out as the house goes up and you can usually just toss the snow chunks aside without too much trouble. Then, I put a 4x4 under the skid, do the same on the other side and you're ready for the road. I did mine this last weekend and the banking was harder than Chinese arithmetic, but if you do that, it'll go quick.

Excellent advice. Why didn't I think of that? I've spent too much time throwing that chisel at ice. Next time, I'll try this little trick. Thanks!
Having completed the move, things went better than I expected.
The south and west sides of the house were somewhere between snow and solid ice, but the north and east sides were easy to chip out. The holes took a little longer because they were frozen solid.
