Ice Report 12/7

Well we have the guys staken a trail to the boot today and a few people out there catching fish also. The ice is looking pretty good but spot checks have 4.5 at the boot, 3.5 around the Picard pt area. 3-7 windblown ice around lakeside reef, 4-5 going south of here. Maybe we will be on track to get some houses out the weekend prior to Christmas if the weather forecast holds out. No guarantees with that obviously.
Will report back later in the week.

We have trails through the rough ice that heaved during the heavy wind that we had last week. We have some other heaves (like 2-mile) that are problematic. The ice is 6-10 inches in most places, though. I just got back in from the Boot and have a trail staked from the North Road an average of 8 inches all th way to the Flats. With all the cold temps, the lake is cracking in a few spots, but will also be healing quickly. The lake should be locked in within the week.
Walleyes are biting on the Boot

Howdy Jon, (Tat2jonnie), How are you?
I saw guys working out by the big crack today on web cam.
Good luck...it looks like a Bridge Over Troubled Water may be needed some day soon. But -- It is clearly making ice out there every night.
I ordered a new Dave Genz walleye and perch ice fishing rod & reel rig today.
I have the walleye fever obviously -- talk about a kid in a candy store..
There ain't no cure for that one except to catch a few. I cannot wait to try it out on the big lake.

A group of 3 of us are heading up to the pond next Sunday for a 4 day trip. Staying in the Isle Bay area and just looking for some helpful hints, this will be our first time to Mille Lacs. Thanks

Be sure and listen to Tonys podcast report next Thursday and I am sure Scott and a few others will have some things posted by next weekend.

When talking about Tony's podcast, what are you actually referring to? Not to sound like an idiot, but this is all new to me.

It will be right here

Tony Roach does a weekly podcast on Thursdays with updated fishing information. What better place to get it from since he and his guide crew are on the lake 7 days a week.

Always get the current ice conditions report about the ice you're going on before you go out. Also make sure to check out ahead of yourself that the ice hasn't cracked. Regardless of how worn a trail is, you should always be watching the road in front of you. Being safe is always the best way to make sure you have a fun fishing trip.
Also, especially if you're new to the lake, you should stay to staked roads.

some good points mentioned above.
Whenever there is a change in temperature such as the below zero cold snap we are currently experiencing you will see the ice crack as it will shrinks. As it did this Saturday with a large crack along the north and westside of the lake. 30 inches wide in some places is what I was told!

When you see a big swing in a warm up!!! you will see the ice expand....take a tray of ice cubes from the freezer and set them on the counter, they will pop right out of the trays during the thawing process. During the warm up you will see pressure ridges occur. From the ice pushing and expanding!

As always check with the resort and get the most current lake information

waiting for any info from hunters on the progress of any roads and estimate when we may be able to drive out to the 3 mile area.
