The walleye fishing continues to be pretty good on Mille Lacs Lake. We are now catching fish while pulling blades and crawlers and the Lindy rig bite is still going strong. Even the bobber bite remains steady. So I guess fishing overall is pretty good! The past few days I have caught some dandy walleye while pulling hammered gold blades with a 7 foot crawler harness. I have found active fish in the rock to mud transition areas around Lakeside 2mile reef and also on the mud flats. I have caught fish Lindy rigging the edges of the breaks on the mud flats in the 26-30 feet of water.
This past weekend I had the pleasure of sharing my boat with two gentleman from the south! Mike was from South Dakota and Jim from Iowa.. Pure fisherman that had a passion for catching walleye. I enjoyed their sense of humor and their fishing ability! It’s always nice to get a couple of good sticks in the boat. We were lucky enough to get into a pretty good bite over this past Saturday and Sunday. Both days we caught a fair number of walleye over and in the slot limit. We kept seven fish on Saturday and ten fish on Sunday. These guys had a blast catching fish over 20 inches. After a fun day on the water Mike and Jim headed down to Hunters Point and had some fresh walleye cooked up! They needed to eat some fish allowing them another day of fishing.
On Sunday we started our day Lindy rigging a break line on a mud flat hoping that we would get into some bigger fish. Bigger fish we did! The guys caught fish over the slot for around two plus hours when I decided it was time to move on. We ran around looking for fish on the electronics to a number of flats before we located enough fish to setup and fish again. It was time to put the blades in the water and cover some ground. It turned out to be a good plan as we caught a fair number of fish over the afternoon hours. We ended the day with the boys having plans to head back down to Hunters for more cooked fish! Hunters has a " you bring the fish, we will cook them" deal for $6 dollars with fries!
Nice fish Bobber! Thanks for the report. Looks like those guys hired the right guide! I'll be meeting a buddy up there on Wed. & we will use some of your tips. Thanks again.
Great looking walleyes, Bobber. Way to go -- nice fishing. Hope to see you again soon at Hunter's when I can fly home to catch a few. Leave about 4 nices ones in Malmo Bay please. I know where they live if you don ot get 'em all. Great to hear the bite is still going well and a blade or bait will bring them in the boat.
