When will you be on the water opening day?

I have always been on the water for the first cast at 12:00am and always been rather successful.  But, I'm thinking about a good nights rest and starting the day around 4 or 5 to be awake for the morning bite.  How bout you?

I'll be getting some rest and getting up early for a long day on the water.  I'm looking forward to the night bobber bite more than anything.

The best opener I've ever had on Mille Lacs was about 10 years ago.  We were on the water at 3am and loading the boat around sunrise with our limit of walleyes.  That night I also recall a guy backing over my Dad's well lit bobber, another guy catching our anchor, and to cap it off a boat falling off the trailer as they pulled it out of the water.  My Dad's words that night "Those people have been on the water since midnight and thats why we don't go out then."

Early riser here too...I think my group is beyond the midnight stuff.

We'll enjoy ourselves Friday evening on the Formica Flats and then we should be on the water by 5-6am...that's our goal anyway.

We'll usually head out on Saturday night for some night fishing after a fish fry!

We're staying up there until Monday this year, so hopefully we're able to make the most of our time.

Not at midnight. Have done that for years and it never improves our catch or fun rate. Burnt out during the daylight hours and the Saturday evening bite.

I head out of our Malmo Bay dock at 6:00am -- and catch the walleyes still hanging around. (If Bobber does not have them all.) By about 10:30am or 11:00am -- if they slow down -- it is shore lunch time at our Malmo Home. YEAH!

I think starting around noon usually works best for me.   The local establishments usually get the best of me.  It is fun watching everyone else come in with there limits while I am putting the boat in the water.  Makes me think I might have a chance @ catching a fish.

I'm working the opener at Rollie and Helen's Musky Shop and finish my shift at midnight...  Tried last year and got to the lake I wanted to try and the Natives were finishing their attempt to get their last musky...ashamedashamedashamed So I will have the boat hooked up for a short trip somewhere to unwind!!!

I remember taking my son out for his first opener on the big lake. I am still trying to catch a fish as big as he did that day. Great memories.
