I know some one does this every year but this might be a little different question? I am going to get a new auger this year and now with all the new motors wondered if any one that is running any of the new ones would post what has gone wrong with them if any thing? Thank you in advance!

I purchases a Solo at the end of november. I think the serial number is around 1,000. The problems they had with the early models is the grease: it wasn't standing up to Minnesota cold. A trip or two down to Strikemaster and everything was straightened out.

Now she runs like a champ and I love it. Spins super fast and cuts holes like crazy. Some people don't like how loud it is, but thats fine with me....

I went big and got the 3hp Lazer Pro. I was afraid that if I didn't I would regrett it in due time and wish I would've gotten a bigger head. Mine came with the 8" bit on there, but I have a 7" bit that I bought a couple seasons ago that I may put on depending.

They are also extremely fast. I raced a 6" Nils with my 8" Solo and lost by about half a second through 25" of ice.

We had a small tournament this past weekend and total there were five guys that had Solos. There were some different options, including an 8" bit, a 7" bit, one guy had the Stirkelite blades on, and a 6" bit. Strikemaster doesn't recomend putting on the smaller bits because they're concerned with all the torque the head puts out, it can screw up the auger assembly.

I've been extremly pleased with it for the entire year so far, putting in my time with it and drilling several thousand holes! I've yet to need a new pair of blades either.
