I want to ask you to take a moment to remember my husband and Josh's dad, Tim "Hooks" Hukriede and anyone else you may know that had/has the horrible fatal disease ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). We are walking around Lake Harriet Saturday in memory of Tim and others. Tim battled this disease for 33 months. He bravely dealt with this knowing he was so close to his favorite fishing lake and woods when we were at our upnorth house there on the East side of MilleLacs. I could go on and on, but you that knew Tim know how he was. Thanks!! Denise "Hookswife"
I started hanging on the In-depth pages of the internet back in '02. I also looked at a bait shop in Garrison back in the early '80's. I have had fascination with Mille Lacs for a long time, though I have only been to the lake twice ever to fish it in the last two years. Because of that fascination, Bobber and "Hooks" were two guys I always wanted to meet because of the early affiliation to ML!!! I remember the pics from one or the others 50th b-day party on the ice three or four years ago and all the other stories and pictures that these two posted about ML. I see his face as I travel the few times up the Highway 18 and see the Carlson/Hukriede name taking care of those few miles of highway. I have been lucky enough to meet Bobber now, and still wish that had happened with Tim.
Because of the reminders of the reality of the frailty of life can sometimes be ever constant, this week along with your reminder of ALS, I had one friend have a brain bleed, another rupture a colon, a third have a benign growth removed from his pancreas after dealing with prostate cancer this spring and fortunately the list doesn't go much further. All of the above at this time are lucky enough to have the breath of life for a little more time.
IT IS MY PLEASURE AND HONOR TO REMEMBER TIM THIS DAY!!! Gods Speed to you and all who knew him a little or a lot!!! May these thoughts go out to any and all that have loved ones struggling with their health!!!

Thanks for the post!! Actually our ditch/road clean up sign is on Hwy 47, miles 99-01...We will be out next weekend to beautify that streatch for the fall.
thanks for the comments...life does take it's turns while going down its path. I think of Tim each and everyday. It's very difficult to lose someone when you are so close as we were. I'm glad that Tim and I were able to help you in some way with your Mille Lacs connection!
And don't ever follow Hookswife......the hyway out front is both hyway 47 and hyway 18 !!!sorry for picking on ya Denise! you had it right Mark........
As for the ALS Walk, great turn out! a few thousand people walking around Lake Harriet!!
You can tell how big a person is, by what it takes to discourage them! Hook's
I can't say that I knew Tim very well, but I can say that I met him and chatted with him a few times at the boat harbor. Seemed to be a very decent and likeable guy. I can sympathize with you for I too have lost people very dear to me, my first wife, my father, and this year my very good fishing buddy. Unfortunetly, life does deal some bad cards and it's not easy but it's the memories that you will carry forever that help us get thru these difficult times.
I too will take a moment. Quite honestly, I think of Tim and others I have lost alot. Whenever I am fishing or just sitting in a tree (lots of time to think) I think of Tim often and what he meant to all of us.
