Damn, summer is half over...hate it! The big green "real" mayflies are here, day two or three of the hatch. Fishing is still pretty good. The fish are scattered and moving, but still findable and still being caught. Take advantage of the good bite that is still happening out there.
The mud flats are a great bet as well as the deep gravel. Even the shoreline bite is still happening if the conditions are right. A couple options, well several are available. It is a great time to run the presentation you are best at…BUT experiment if you want to get better at others you dont use that often.Seriously, when I am on fish and catching them on a rig for example I may switch to blades, bobbers, or troll them to see if there is a more productive way to catch them. This also works in reverse.IF you see the fish and don’t catch them, try something else, it might be the key to getting them to bite. Many things are working right now and fishing is good and fun!
With that said, here is what is happening on the lake this past week and should continue for a while. The water temp is holding around 70 or below. Again, like i said last week, there are no real secrets here. Mud flats like Fisher’s, Center, the Needle and Greg’s.Gravel like Highway / July Bar, 4 Mile and 5 Mile have fish on them too.The transition areas are showing fish that are catchable. All the places I just mentioned and other areas are putting fish in the boat.Rigging with a long 10 foot snell is going well.I have been using Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon 6 pound green line as my leader material on the mud.It helps with the real finicky bites. This holds true for bobber fishing too.
We are seeing fish caught on bobbers, blades and suspended cranks too.The key is to make SURE you see fish and lots of them BEFORE you even fish.Try this…go places you don’t normally fish and look for fish.Find new places and when you do, you will find fish, then fish them!Finding new areas is cool too and will give you a lot of confidence. The water temp is holding with the cool evenings and that is keeping the bite going! Try everything and anything…there isnt a right way OR a wrong way to do any of these things!!!Do what you do best and try new things and new areas...Just catch some fish!
Send your reports, love to hear what you have to share!
Thanks for the report Scott. That cooler than normal water has those fish on the chew yet. It also helps the mortality rate for the CPR fish. Important to unhook and get the fish back in the water as soon as possible.
Hey hard to say, but deep water...mud, gravel, transition areas. find the fish and lots of them before you fish. then fish the fish and depth they are in. hunt the fish!
