Opener report

Typical opener weather wise. We got on the water Saturday morning at about 6 and it was 39 degrees. We started fishing rocks in 15ft and two minutes into the 09 season I had my first walleye, a 23" fatty. After that things slowed for walleye, but we had the perch going for a hour or two. We Headed for the north sand later in the morning. There was no lack of company up there. We fished 3 hours and boated roughly a dozen fish. We had 3 in the 16-17 range and all others were 22+. Other than bobber fishing and pulling snells in the sand the fish came pretty easy. Finding fish in the 14-18 range was a bit of a challenge, but it seemed if you found one you would more than likely find more in the near area. I don't have much for pictures, but will post a few later when my camera get charged up. Overall I would say it was one of the better openers for fish caught by numbers and size for sure. How did you do?

Fished the Sand and found several fish at 17' on a plain hook and red bead. About 12:30 the motor started leaking gas out the overflow. We pulled out and went down to Lybacks.  Fully expecting to be out of a boat for a week, I went in and told Eddy about the problem. He called his mechanic up front and he came out to look at the motor. After an hour or so he had it apart,Fixed, and put back together. Wow! Talk about great service!

I was all alone on lakeside reef last night. Fished just south of the marker. Caught sevreal big fish, and 3 keepers. Pink 1/16 ounce jig with a fathead in 10 feet of water. See you out there tonight!

Thanks for the reports. Good to see you made it with the mechanical troubles. Hats off to Lybacks.

My group fished the north end from Reddoor to Barnacles. Fished at midnight with bobbers on rocks in 6-8 fow and got 2 keepers. Went back out in the morning with bobbers and got a 27 1/2" (a PB for my brother-in-law) and 23". Went and tried rigging Sat afternoon, didn't work out too well for us, but man did we mark a lot of fish in 20-24 fow. My boat was back home by 6:00p. The other boat stayed for Sat night and got around dozen or so. They fished 14 fow on rocks with bobbers.

Fishing should be better this weekend? By the looks of it we had the troubles getting the fish last weekend, but everyone did pretty well.
