Hello fellow Hunters Faithfull. Anyone know the latest on the gill nets that were trapped under the ice? Seems to be a pretty touchy subject and IMO well deserved.

Just wanted to bring it up here, because this site seems to get right to the facts without attacking each others opinions.

Have a great day. 4 1/2 more days!!!

It's one of those things that get me all fired up. But people need to know what is happening with these fish. To many unanswered questions if you ask me.
I am not posting this to get people fired up about the subject, but in my opinion it needs the exposure and insight into what a netting project looks like

Keep the emotions in check. I know it's not easy.

Any word if the "LOST" nets were recovered or what kind of penalties, if any, will be enforced?

watch fox 9 tonight and everynight this week at 9 for continued coverage. They had a blurb on the news over the weekend saying they have some coverage of what is going on.

Probably have to tie my hands so I don't throw the remote through the T.V. I know the Budweiser will be safe, not sure about the remote though!

i truely feel for you folks up there, especially the ones that rely on the natural resouces to try and make a living. I am from WI and Love the resource that you have in Mille Lacs lake. We over here also have our problems. I recently read a report that the WI DNR has decided to lower the limit to 2 Walleyes/day on 400 northern lakes due to the fact that the the Indians (have a hard problem calling them Native Americans) upped their spearing/netting from 280 lakes last year to 412 this year. It appeared to me that at least for a while, they backed off some while getting all theri casinos in place and probably didn't want the contervesy (or haterid if you will) taking place while trying to get everyone "Hooked" on their gaming.
Personally ( and I do continue to contact Government officails) don't beielve they will do a damn thing about this continuing and growing problem.
It's a big world, but I think the only way to hit them where it hurts is in their pockets. I WILL NOT support any casino related to the Indains (again, can't call em Native Americans). There has to be a way for us to pull together and get our point across. It is nice seeing the problem make it further than just all of us complaining via such great places on the web like this one.
Watching the video truely made me sick.
Hang in ther everyone, and may the Walleye Gods be with you this coming weekend.

"Opener access

If the tribal harvest backs up to the Minnesota walleye opener next weekend, the tribes and GLIFWC have adjusted their creel survey protocol, Kalk said.

"We will move out of the way to help reduce waiting times at the accesses," Kalk said.

Netters will still be allowed to net. They will be required to follow all practices currently in place. However, in an effort to reduce a back up at public accesses, when they pull their nets, tribal netters will be required to place the net - fish and all - in an enforcement vehicle. The conservation officers will transport the fish and nets to a predetermined location either on tribal or state land to finish the creel survey.

"We would like anglers to see the process of weighing and measuring and all that, but we don't want to be in the way," Kalk said. "

Nice to see that they are going to allow us lake access at the landing our tax dollars built.

I need a drink!
