Running Synthetic Oil In your Auger
Permalink

I tell people to run synthetic oil like Amsoil in there Auger all the time. Why?Simply because it is a better lubricant than conventional oil.It doesnt break down like petroleum products and simply put it is more slippery. And because it is a better lubricant you get less friction which means less heat and less wear which means longer life of your equiptment.Everyone gets a little skeptical mixing this a 100/1 VS 24/1 regular oil but that just tells you how good this stuff is.I myself mix it a little richer at about 80/1 which is about 2 ounces to a gallon of gas. Some of the things you will notice right away are a LOT less smoke and your auger will start and run better. It is also very rare that you ever foul a spark plug.Ive been running this stuff for a long time in 2 different augers and never had a problem. It is also a myth that this will void your warranty.Another nice thing is you can run this gas in all of your 2 strokes that take mixed gas like lawn mowers, weed whips and chain saws etc.No more need for multiple gas cans laying around.I run synthetic in everything and now you are seeing more auto manufaturers using synthetic in their vehicles. It costs a little more for oil changes in a vehicle but you can go 5-6000 miles between changes so the cost is about the same as regular oil. Also if you ask anyone that is into racing most are using a synthetic product. And because this isnt a petroleum product you are keeping your money in the USA.Give it a try you will be glad you did and so will your equiptment.

2050Skeeter:  If I want to change over to synthetic in my auger do I need to drain any gas that is currently in the tank or will it mix?  I have an Amzoil dealer close to me, so purchase wouldn't be a problem. Bill

I dont think you have to but I would anyway.Might as well enjoy the benefiets right away.If you have any leftover premix just dump it in your car or trucks gas tank.Trust me you will notice the difference.I have turned a lot of skeptics into believers.

Also I am not sponsored by or an Amsoil/Synthetic dealer.I have just used this stuff long enough to know how well it works.

Hey Skeeter, I run Amzoil too and agree with everything you said but, it will void your warrenty with Strikemaster. I talked to them at the ice fishing show and they said they had tested amzoil and it was fine to run it but to wait till after the 1yr warrenty ran out on the powerhead as Tecomseh would have a problem. I also asked if they had ever considered offering an exhaust deflector to direct the exhaust down so I was'nt messing up my nice walls. I was told Strikemaster already had built one and it worked great, it came with a hose to get the fumes out of the house. When strikemaster sent a prototype to Tecumseh to get their blessing, Tecomseh said any alteration to their design or recomondations would void the engine warrenty.

This was taken off of Amsoils website~

Will AMSOIL Motor Oils void the warranty of a new vehicle?

faq_a.gif Absolutely not! Manufacturers warranties are based upon the use of oils meeting specific API Service Classifications, for example, SJ/CF. (AMSOIL lubricants meet the current API Service requirements and, thus, are perfectly suited for use in any new vehicle without affecting the validity of the new vehicle warranty.)

However they may see things differently.I am not to worried about it as Strikemasters customer service is top notch and if my auger blew up it wouldnt be because of lack of lubrication anyway. And if it was under warranty Im sure they would take care of it.I usually run the first tank of fuel using their oil just because if you were going to have a problem typically it is going to happen right away.I am surprised that they dont sell a synthetic with their name on it.That smokeless oil they sell sure isnt smokeless by any means.Still Strikemaster is a great company with great customer service and they make some of the best ice augers.

I tried the smokeless oil too. The strikemaster and the jiffy brand is the same oil, just a different label. It did cut down a bit on the oil smoke but nothing like the Amzoil. I can only guess that the reason Tecumsah would have a problem is we are not mixing to the recomended ratio. Strikemaster reps told me to run what Tecumseh wants till the engine is out of warrenty, then switch to amzoil. I agree with the customer service, they are the best.

I would say, if you walk in under warranty, and announce you are mixing 100/1 ratio, you will be hard pressed to have Tecumseh come to the dance. Oil can meet specs all day, but if you are mixing to unapproved ratios, you are not using as recommended. IMHO. If I wanted to keep my warranty in tact, I'd wait 'til after my engine warranty was up, before switching.
